My Gap: A better way to keep unplugged cables on smooth desk/table surfaces.

Below I copy a sketch of a first solution idea, and two photos of a appearance prototype.

Ten gaps:
  • A better way to lock bicycles (low additional weight, but secures the bicycle).
  • A better way to vacuum under tables, couches, and chairs.
  • A way to charge mobile phones when on the go.
  • A good-looking laptop bag that can also carry the powercord.
  • A simpler way to record calorie intake.
  • A better/faster way to understand the legal statements when signing up for a web service.
  • A better way to keep ironed shirt in shape when traveling.
  • A better way to sort recyclables in private homes.
  • A better way to archive sketches and notes from my notebooks that makes them searchable.
  • A better way to keep unplugged cables on smooth desk/table surfaces.

Selected gap:
A better way to keep unplugged cables on smooth desk/table surfaces

Why it fits this course:
  • I personally experience this gap in my daily live.
  • I have access to more than five people who also experience this gap regularly.
  • I can imagine to design and develop a prototype of an artifact that addresses this gap.
  • I can imagine this gap being addressed by an artifact in the domain I am interested in (physical products).

This spoon, Teo by Alessi, is in my view a very elegant design solution.  In addition to being a spoon, it incorporates the function of  squeezing the tea bag, all with its one-part design.
